“Defining Shan: BIG Love”

Topics: Injury prevention, Teaching special populations, Spinal Awareness in Asana

My name is Shannon Escarra, but most call me Shan. 🦋

We all have layers.

For me, I contribute to the world…

as a physical therapist, with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy, as a yoga teacher, pilates/medicinal movement instructor, and mental fitness trainer with 2Mynds, a company that aims to teach others of how to train the mind like we train the body.

I contribute and grow within myself…

as a thalassophile, lover of the seas, dancing in the waves every opportunity I can get, whether that is swimming in the ocean or surfing on a board in Santa Cruz, CA.

As a retired college gymnast, I continue to engage in acrobatics in all the ways that my body supports as my practice has morphed due to a spinal cord injury that I underwent at the start of my 30(s).

My body composition has a heavy influence of pitta and vata personality characteristics.

I am full of fire, determined, and thrive off of inspiring others to be.

These strong characteristics influence my flows as a Vinyasa teacher.

I have been teaching for over 13 years starting in my teenage years as a pilates and yoga instructor, and have practiced as a licensed physical therapist, with special interest in spinal pathology and end of life care, for around 5 years.

I am honored to contribute to this Yoga Teacher Training by providing knowledge I have acquired in many different professions and interests.
